Still in the era of the 21st century, Indian domestic economy is comprised by 15.87% share from Agricultural sectors and it provides a minimum of 60% employment of the total population.
So Farmers has been playing a significant role to construct the economic backbone of the Nation. But still the large bulk of Indian farmers have remained poor and neglected for ages due to their poor socio-economic condition.
The government of India from its independence has been taking a numbers of schemes, programmes and plans to improve the socio-economic condition of farmers, but due to the structural and non-structural problems of the system, the socio-economic condition has not been increased in the expected rate. As India is comprised by 70% rural agrarian population, to strengthen the economic backbone of the nation, the socio-economic condition of farmers have to be improved. The harsh reality of the agricultural land distribution is showing the class differences of the society as 82% of the total farmers are belonging from the Marginal and Small farmer groups.
The socio-economic status of farmers is basically the analysis of the Economic condition and its impact to their position building process within the society.
